We the Children of India..

"We may not be voters, but we believe that the voices of children can be stronger than the votes of adults and it is necessary for us to speak up now to secure our future." (Excerpt from the NINEISMINE declaration)

This google form is an attempt to get one million child-citizens of India to prioritise this children's manifesto which was created by children across the country over the last two years. We are hopeful that this exercise will influence all party manifestoes of all political parties and individual candidates standing for the upcoming General Elections, 2024.

We the Children of India, seek to be at the heart of all election manifestoes of all political parties and individual candidates standing for elections during the upcoming General Elections, 2024.

We the Children of India, seek a strong focus on the most vulnerable children namely those with disabilities and those from vulnerable communities, such as minorities, refugees, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, those residing in urban slums, those identifying as LGBTIQA++ and grappling with mental health issues etc . (Referred to as the Last Child in this manifesto)

The following of the recommendations made by my peers, appeal to me. (Choose any or all the recommendations that you believe in and seek to be fulfilled by your new Members of Parliament)

1. Budgets and Laws for All Children

Invest 3% if not 5% (GDP - Public Spending) on public health, 6% for education, 10% on children and 5% of the environment by budget 2025.

Ensure that all state governments disclose their annual budgets and spending on children.

Provide detailed statistics on citizens below 18 in all national reports, surveys, and census.

Protect and promote India’s constitutional values and our current preamble while including rights of Mother Earth into our consitutions.

Make the Sign Language an official language of India.

2. Health and Survival of Every Child

Provide nutritious mid-day meals with breakfast to all children from 0-17 years for 365 days a year.

Enforce counselling in all schools with a strong national awareness campaign on mental health and climate anxiety.

Ensure child-friendly, quality, affordable and accessible healthcare centres for all children and their families.

Ensure every poor community/family has affordable if not free electricity, cooking fuel, toilets, and drinking water.

Make India free from child marriage, child trafficking, child poverty, child labour and child abuse.

3. Advocacy by and Participation of, for and by All Children

Consult children and their families likely to be impacted by new laws and projects.

Provide digital access including internet and devices to all children particularly those with disability and other vulnerabilities.

Mandate compulsory training on child rights and child participation for government officials, elected representatives, teachers, and parents.

Ensure all municipal wards and village panchayats adopt the recommended guidelines to make them child-friendly.

Set up inclusive children's parliaments federated from the neighbourhood to state and national levels with annual formal interactions with elected representatives at all levels.

4. Rights and Entitlements of Each Child

Set up trained neighbourhood child-rights vigilance committees and School Management Committees.

Empower independent bodies to monitor the practice of child rights and Earth rights, by all particularly businesses and governments.

Sign all international human rights treaties especially those that protect children.

Review the National Policy for Children (2013) with children while adding their ecological rights to it.

Submit reports to the UN on Child Rights on time.

5. Accessibility for and Inclusion of the Last Child*

Ensure well-promoted, accessible, and affirmative schemes to support the most vulnerable children.

Ensure inclusion and non-discrimination for every challenged, vulnerable or excluded child.

Invest in and upgrade all public services like toilets, schools, transport, healthcare and avoid the closure of any.

Promote a culture of peace, mindfulness and inter-religious/cultural harmony.

Enforce the 25% reservation clause of the Right to Education (RTE) to insure the genuine interactions of children from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.

6. Trust and Protection of Every Child

Enforce safeguarding processes in all schools, organisations and offices interacting with children.

Ensure that government institutions for children in conflict with the law and those in need of care and protection follow the best child friendly standards.

Ensure the protection of all defenders of earth, human, and child rights, particularly of those below the age of 18.

Ban all forms of child labour right up to the age of 18 even in family-run operations.

Set up sufficient and quality creches with adequate hours of care and nutritious meals.

7. Sansar (Earth) and Each Child's ecological rights

Upgrade all schools as modular green spaces using sustainable technologies and renewable energy.

Adopt a robust scientific and rights-based school curriculum on the ecological rights of children and climate change and disaster risk reduction.

Educate all students to equip them with green sustainable careers, and lifestyles.

Ban 'use and throw' plastic while investing in sustainable alternatives with a vibrant segregation, collection, composting and recycling system of all waste.

Invest in good, green, sufficient and affordable public transport systems.

8. Vikas (development) and the complete growth of Every Child

Extend the right to education to include all children from age 3 to 17 years while upgrading the standard to include world class technologies, teaching styles and modern facilities.

Embed the teaching of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and advocacy for the same in all subjects taught in schools and colleges.

Make education more practical assignment/activity based with more teamwork.

Set up a one-stop window service within the school campus for all documents, entitlements and schemes related to children.

Convert all government and private day schools into day boarding centres to provide students with co-curricular, and extracurricular sports and leisure opportunity after school hours.

We finally seek that each political party and individual candidate devotes one day each year to report to children, on the progress each has made in fulfilling their child-centred promises. While also publishing a child-friendly online annual report with an interactive on-going online system for children to feedback and rate the progress based on children's own on-ground personal experiences. This, we believe, would underline your commitment to these promises.
